Digital Learning Log

I've decided to use my old blog as my Digital Learning Log.  It's kind of cool because now I may use this page again :)  Thanks, Tina!

Summer Reading!

Sixth Graders,

Here it is ONE WEEK before school starts, and I haven't posted what I've been reading this summer!  The good thing is that I have been reading a lot.  And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT.  Here are some of the highlights.

I read a really cool book by an Oregon author titled Restoring Harmony.  The author is Joelle Anthony, and the book is set mostly in Gresham.  Pretty cool!

I also read Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover which is the third book in the series by Ally Carter.  I love these books because they are about a girl spy.  If you've ever read any of the Alex Rider books, but wished the hero was a girl, then these books are for you!

For those of you who enjoy your books a little scarier, I read the first book in the Cirque du Freak series, A Living Nightmare... by Darren Shan.  It was pretty funny, and moved along at a good pace, but I don't think I'll be reading the rest of the series.  However, I do recommend you give it a try if you like vampires, freaks, snakes, spiders, scary carnivals, etc.
.

Currently, I'm reading the final book of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.  I am so excited to read Mockingjay, I can't believe I took time away from it to write this post!

Enjoy your last week!

Summer!!

So, summer's here again!  I have left up my previous summer posts, as they include lots of great suggestions for summer reading.  I will, of course, be posting again this summer with new books.  I checked out a crate full (literally) from the West Orient library before I left :)  My main priority is to read as many Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) books as possible.  The list is posted below on this blog.  Get reading!

Summer's Almost Over!

Dear New Sixth Grader,
Well, here it is August 9 already, and I haven't written one summer blog. Why? I've been too busy reading, of course! Hopefully, you already love reading as much as I do, but if not, you'll have a whole year with me to discover the joy and excitement a good book can create. Some books I've enjoyed so far this summer are This Lullaby and The Truth About Forever both by Sarah Dessen, Starclimber by Kenneth Oppel, and Fablehaven: Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary by Brandon Mull. All of the books were wonderful and I recommend both theStarclimber and Fablehaven series very highly. I can't wait to hear what you have been reading this summer and to discover new books to love during our year together.

I'm getting excited about the beginning of a new school year and can't wait to meet you. Enjoy the rest of the summer and I'll see you soon!

Sincerely,
Ms. Darby
